A. Canovas Esperde was born in Artemisa, Cuba. At a young age, he had a sense of vocation for fine art.
In 1968 he attended a school for Fine Arts called San Alejandro in Havana. In that same year, he switched schools to attend Taller Escuela de las FAR (Workshop school of the FAR). In his first years of studies he felt attracted to the work of Cezanne, Braque, Picasso and cubism in general, that’s why as an Artist his first creations were very much like those he liked mixed with realism. When walking the streets of old Havana, seeing its buildings, its columns, its grey colors, ochres, sienna, the cheerful colors of his native countryside, the green of the trees, the red of the land, the beauty of the birds and the look of the painter, in that wide world, he developed his style.
His participation in the Cuban culture like rehearsals for musicians, poets, and dancers influenced his work. His eyes as an artist captures everything around him, The soul selects and the brush creates, here in the united states he has seen variety of fruits and wines that surround him at supermarkets this has served him as inspiration to create his still life’s on canvas.
